Background
We act for Stuart Partnership who are considering a proposal for an intensive broiler production unit (90,000 birds) on their farm at Mains of Duncrub, Dunning.
Your feedback is sought at this early stage before a planning application is worked-up in detail and submitted to Perth & Kinross Council.
No formal plans have yet been submitted, but your comments would be very helpful in informing our plans before they are submitted.

What is Proposed?
It is proposed that two poultry unit buildings extending to approximately 4,650m2 will be constructed on land adjacent to Mains of Duncrub Farm. The buildings will be designed specifically for rearing chickens for meat production.
These buildings will house 90,000 birds, that will be introduced as chicks, and then taken to slaughter at suitable local units in either Letham or Angus. The buildings will be constructed out of modern materials and insulated to comply with current insulation standards. Ventilation will be provided via adjustable air inlets in the side walls that will also have daylight windows. Air extraction will be by high ventilating fans mounted on the roof. Low energy efficient lighting will be used throughout.
Feed will be purchased or home grown and stored in steel bins. Balanced diets will be formulated in accordance with the requirements and stage of growth of the birds. Water will be provided through nipple drinkers to minimise spillage. This, together with good environmental control in the buildings will help to maintain good litter quality and minimise ammonia and dust emissions.
At the end of the growing period the birds will be removed to a processing plant before being sold on to all the major supermarkets. The used litter will be transported in covered vehicles to Westfield Power Station in Fife for the generation of renewable energy.
The empty buildings will then be cleaned down, disinfected and made ready for the next crop. There will be approximately six crops per year. The birds will be kept in the highest standards required of regulation, in a safe and controlled environment. There will be no discharge of any polluting material to water courses.
